I bought my first proper camera in Cambridge in 1997. It was a Praktica TL3. Then I borrowed a book from the library to teach myself what depth of field meant. Taking photos was a real adventure. The dark room was a religious experience. And getting a result was always a genuine achievement. Slowly, digital replaced film, but I miss the old days.
