A New Yorker In Africa

Despite our 'access all areas' culture, there are still contemporary photographers who have the ability to evoke that sense of pioneering adventure - although it can often be more cerebral - or conceptual - than physical.

Canadian born photographer and filmmaker, Lyle Owerko balances an established advertising career in New York with personal explorations across the globe, often in support of NGO's working in the Third World. Whilst his name might not be immediately familiar, everyone in the media will know his work because on September 11th, 2001, Lyle snapped the terrorist assault on the World Trade Centre. One image (shot with a Fuji 645zi) was subsequently used by Time magazine for its front cover.
