SIGMA Lens
8mm FISHEYE

by KEN BROWNE

Sigma recently introduced their 8mm f/4 spherical fisheye - this is the widest circular fisheye with auto focus on the market to date.
The lens also has a very tight, close-focusing distance of 5.12 inches.

IT CAPTURES a 180-degree field of view, with exaggerated perspective and a very dramatic linear distortion. When shooting on a full-frame film or digital SLR, you will get a full-circle image. When not using a full frame, you will get some minor cropping effect on the image.

There is a spring-loaded filter holder inside the lens mount that accepts gelatine filters cut with the help of a supplied template. This allows for cropping when using the lens mounted filter holder, but it will take a standard 72mm filter as well. Note that this will give some minor clipping on the edges, fairly common in the ultra wide angle lens when mounting a filter.

The lens also has a very tight, close-focusing distance of 5.12 inches. Such minimal focusing distances make for amazing perspective distortion.
