Olympus Zuiko 14-42mm
Light and Neat

by Ken Browne

The standard kit lens which Olympus supply with DSLRs, including the E-420 and E-510, is the Zuiko Digital 14-42mm.
Optically as good as anything else in its class

EASILY THE SMALLEST and lightest zoom lens currently available, the 14-42mm incorporates one extra-low dispersion (ED) glass element and two aspheric elements; an internal focusing system with a proper manual focus ring and a non-rotating front element - some neat optics and the famed Olympus quality!

It's optically as good as anything else in its class; resolution is consistently high, chromatic aberration generally low, pretty resistant to flare and Macro performance is very acceptable.

Aside from the inevitable trade off - size against limited F stop range and restricted aperture options, this is regarded as one of the best standard zooms currently available.
