LaCie Rugged All-Terrain Hard Drive
Solving on the road storage needs

by Andrew Kaiser

These days, it's not unusual for a photographer to clear several gigabytes worth of images on a typical location shoot. That’s a lot of data that needs to be stored safely and securely until one can get back to a home base to upload photos.
The LaCie is built for travel in the real world and can take the everyday bumps and minor accidents that occur when on the road.

WHEN SHOOTING ON LOCATION, whether that location is the Amazon jungle, or the local concert down the street, lugging a notebook around is not only impractical, but much too slow as well. Compact Flash cards currently offer 8 GB at the most and keeping track of enough of these little guys to fill anyone’s storage needs would only be an exercise in frustration. That's where the LaCie portable Hard Drive comes into play.

The LaCie unit is rugged and fast, giving the user the best of both worlds that each and everyone one of us so desperately needs during photo shoots. It's a no frills and no fuss unit that does exactly what I want it to; holds my images in a worry free fashion. Conveniently bus-powered as well as plug and play compatible, I can download my files through either a FireWire or USB 2.0 port and the unit integrates seamlessly between camera, notebook, desktop, or any other digital device I desire.

The best quality of the LaCie drive is its rugged scratch resistant shell surrounded by a good quality rubber 'bumper' on the edges. Let's face it, baggage handlers working in airports across the world aren’t exactly gentle with out precious items, one very good reason why my camera always goes on board with me. The LaCie is built for travel in the real world and can take the everyday bumps and minor accidents that occur when on the road.
