OWENS QUIT photography in 1978 to brew beer at home, after a successful, but not financially sufficient, career in photography. Resurrection of Owens’ work has been recently ignited by a meeting with a collector, Robert Shimshak, and resulted in shows in places like the Whitney and Getty museums.
His second exhibition at James Cohan contains images from Owen’s past projects – documentary shots of political marches and Vietnam veteran processions, his series on the phenomenon of ‘working’ (which is due to come out in a book) and also recent images from a trip around the States.
