The Assignment

An amateur photography competition, The Assignment, organised by Canon this year, has attracted 43,404 submissions.

THE PHOTOGRAPHERS - four shortlisted from each of the 18 participating countries - had to compete in a Viennese finale. They had to demonstrate specific skills in their chosen category – Portrait, Landscape, Sport and Macro. Each group was sent on an assignment but the Landscape group seems to have it best of all (provided none of them suffers from vertigo) – they were to take pictures during a trip in an air balloon.

The winners are: Portrait category - Ivan Hoo, UK; Sport - David Bernard, Czech Republic; Macro - Alan Laboile, France and Dave Derbis, Germany in the Landscape category.
