MIRROR IMAGE brings a selection of works from the last decade by a Colombian artist Oscar Muñoz who is showing in London for the first time. He draws inspiration from the newspapers and the political situation in Latin America.
One of his projections shows faces painted with water on hot stones, so they inevitably evaporate - they are ‘still’ and yet in transition. Another one is a reflection in the water held in his palm. In an installation upstairs, a row of polished metal plates is hung on the wall, reflecting the room, until someone breathes on them, the steam creating elusive, temporary faces.
Muñoz says: ‘my work insists [...] in documenting an immemorial scenario: the “logic of everyday thinking” that stems from the impossibility of retaining and fixing images permanently.’
