EACH CONTAINS a different series of works by this well-known British artist and the 1997 Turner Prize winner. The Santa Monica branch has been taken over by Family History, a video installation of a fictional archival family video of young Wearing commenting on a 1970’s real-life TV series.
The other part of the showcase, at North Almont Drive, is about Pin-Ups, a series made in collaboration with a science fiction artist, Jim Burns. Wearing used models that answered her online ad and wished to have a remake and a portrait done in a pin-up style. The resulting photographs were then used for the final painted version of the portrait with the model’s personal story written on the inside.
